‘21 Centry Go’ is a new video series which will focus on latest games.
You will get in touch with recent developments of Go.
Special thanks to: fwiffo. He chose the name for me, and I like it a lot.

This game was played in June, 2009. It’s not very new, but the content is good.
This video will be released on June 18th.

Update (June 17):

I promised I will upload this video on June 18, but here is a problem:

When I upload my videos to Youtube, I got the error “the upload failed due to an unknown error”.

I asked google, and tried several ways:

- Upload via different browsers: chrome, ie
- Upload via different uploaders: default, gears, java, html
- Upload via DVDVideoSoft Youtube Uploader
- Convert videos to different formats: mp4, h264, mpeg2
- Use another pc & broadband & vpn server

The problem remains the same. It got me crazy. Please help me if you know how to solve it.

Update (June 23):

I will upload my video to vimeo.com. Due to the “weekly upload limit”,  the video will be uploaded next week.

I will send a email to my subscribers once I finished that.

Update (July 4):

The video finally released.
I think I was not in good shape, so this video is not my best. Maybe I will do better in the next episode.

Just a brilliant comment. I`m waiting for your new commentaries every month. I`m trying actually to recreate them during the go-club`s lessons (with a link to the site ofc))) You`re doing a great job to all the Go-community. And also your commenting style is marvellous – “If the situation goes like this, it would be another game”, “This move is beyond the imagination”. Too good!
Btw, why the Warcraft 3-movie`s moments in the beginning?))

Very good commentary, and the video quality is definitely far better than the youtube videos.
It is a shame about the upload limit,
maybe we could make donations for vimeo plus about $60 for a year with the 5gb per week upload limit.

I think I prefer Vimeo, as the quality seems to be much better and it’s all in one video, not 8 parts! Thanks again and keep it up.

I just want to clear up a question I had. In the lower left you said many times, “X color can play here.”

Did you mean that those moves were also joseki but simply weren’t suitable for this board or did you mean that they were just plain bad? I was just confused a bit on that one point. Just try to be a bit more explicit in the future.

You should’t be so down on yourself though. Overall is was still very good like the other ones you have made! I don’t know of anyone else who continues to make such great commentary videos. Most commentaries are written so it’s hard for me to study them lately due to arm problems. I really look forward to your next one.

Perhaps a game with Gu Li? :)

    countsheep Reply:

    Sometimes I say:
“Black/White can also consider to play here”; “If B/W plays here, it would be another game”; or something like that.
It’s just another choice for B/W. The choice is not bad, but in the actual game, the player didn’t adopt that way to play.
Gu Li is one of the best players in the world. I will comment on his game.

A very interesting game. I could never understand such a game without your guidance. Thank you. =)

Don’t worry too much about your stock market losses. You sound young enough that your stock market strategy should be focused on the long term. Thinking too much about the daily swings will just lose you money. If you’re really concerned, consider buying options straddles to hedge against short term volatility.

Glad you were able to get the video up. Look forward to the next!

    Nice video, thanks.

I have a question about the seki shape at 08:27. Descending at (2.1) is black’s gote seki. and I did not see how this works. If white tenukis, can black descends (1.8), I think white will need to connect (1.7)? Then black connects (1.3). Looks like black can kill white in this varation. Maybe there’s something i did not see, could you point it out. I’m about 5kyu, and this is a bit complex for me, thanks :D

    [Reply]

    GaiaCaT Reply:

I’m pretty sure the Black descend at B1 is the >start< of the seki sequence.
After B1, white throws in at A3, threatening to kill with A2.
Black has 2 answers, capture at A2 or descend at A8.
bA2, wA5, bA8, wC1, bA7, wA3, ko and White will kill in next move as Black has no local ko threats.
So Black descends at A8, wA7, bA2 and seki.
Black cannot leave out A2 as White will play there next move and kill the corner.

    [Reply]

    GaiaCaT Reply:

Oops, some mistakes in there, that’s what happens before coffee.
After White’s throwin at A3, Black’s capture at A2 is the only move.
At this point, White can leave the corner, resolving to seki after bA8, wA7.
    I think…

    [Reply]

    kokomi Reply:

Gotcha. Thanks. So white needs to throw in at A3, black responds, and then it’s white’s sente.

An espresso for you to say thanks :D

    GaiaCaT Reply:

    Disregard my comments above.
Doesn’t White kill directly by playing A2 after Black’s descend?
    bB1, wA2, bA3, wC1, bA8, wA5.
    bB1, wA2, bA8, wC1, bA7, wA3 and snapback.

Thanks to kokomi and CaiaCaT. Thank you for watching the video so carefully and pointing out the mistake. It means a lot to me. I’m a perfectionist in my work :p. I will be more careful.

Last week I uploaded a video to vimeo and everything got right. But this time it tells me “There was a problem loading this video”. I checked vimeo’s forum. It’s a bug, and the only thing I can do is wait.
So plz wait a few more days.

All weird things happened to me. And yesterday I suffered substantial losses in the stock market. Where’s my luck gone? T_T

well, you know, i must say, there is nothing weird about suffering substantial losses in the stock market these days! T_T

I’m glad it worked for you. It’s also good for us viewers because it sounds like the video quality will be better now too and not have to load so many links. :)

I hope you keep making videos for a long time. You give some of the most helpful explanations I’ve ever encountered.

By the way, I bet many of us would like to see some of your own games too!

I didn’t play very much lately. If I have a good game in the future, I will comment on it for fun. :)

  18. elementc says:

I’m glad that Vimeo worked for you. Sorry that I didn’t know there was some kind of weekly upload limit though. I thought it was only a limit onthe number of HD videos per week and not normal videos.

    [Reply]

    countsheep Reply:

Thanks for the recommendation of vimeo. Vimeo is great, and I will not need to split my video anymore.
The limit(500Mb per week) is enough for me. The new video is 430M after the video convertion. Because I have uploaded a 100Mb old video to test the website, so I can’t upload the new one this week. That’s fine, and the new week is coming :)

    hi countsheep,

if you want, you could try transferring the file to me via skype, and i can upload it to youtube for you. my skype name is James Acres.

in case you aren’t familiar with skype, it is a free video phone application which you can also use to transfer files of any size.

Have you tried having a trusted friend in another country upload it for you?

Maybe try uploading it to Vimeo. They have high quality standards and you can upload longer videos I think so you don’t have to split them as much.

Vimeo is definitely a better option than google video.

I’ll try vimeo. Thanks. If I still can’t upload, I’ll find someone in other countries to help me.

  22. Paul says:

The problem could relate to firewall software (try temporarily disabling it) or it could relate to transparent web proxying. It’s not clear to me what “vpn server” means in this context, but the vpn could be part of the problem. Try uploading without a vpn if that’s possible? If feels like something is interfering with the upload. Usually that’s transparent proxies, firewalls, or explicit deep inspection rejections… it’s really hard to say. The above is educated guesswork.

    [Reply]

    countsheep Reply:

I have disabled my firewall. VPN is a proxy server. In China, I can’t visit Youtube without a proxy.

    Dear,

You may try Google Video: http://www.google.com/video/upload/video_instructions.html
Or upload to some files server: mediafire,…
Then someone may try upload to Youtube.

As I see, that error is something special that there aren’t exact solutions for that.

Your video is great for us amateur.

Hope you will find the solution soon.

    [Reply]

    countsheep Reply:

thx, maybe Google Video is a choice.

    [Reply]

    yasha Reply:

did you try re-uploading a video that you’d previously uploaded with success?

that would let us know if the problem was with the new video, or if you have some sort of network problem.

if it is a network problem, then we just have to figure out how to get the video to someone so they can upload it for you.

    [Reply]

    countsheep Reply:

I tried re-uploading an old video. The error remained the same.

    countsheep Reply:

Google has stopped its uploading service. :(

    [Reply]

    frank Reply:

Maybe google stopped servicing people from china because off the conflict between google and china. (Nothing against china)
Did you try to send it to somebody outside china to upload it for you?

    countsheep Reply:

It has been more than a year since China blocked youtube. I bought a proxy server which enables me to upload. :)

and did you try out http://www.veoh.com ?
